The 405th Halo Costuming and Prop Maker Community is a world wide group of Halo enthusiasts, costumers and prop makers. Locally, Snowburner Battalion is the Alberta based unit of the larger Canadian Regiment.
The 405th can be found at www.405th.com. It is free to join and you do not need a costume to be a member. If you do have a Halo costume you can choose if you would like to go through the Deployment process, however, this is completely optional and does not dictate whether you are able to wear your costume at an event.
The 405th is home to a wide variety of people from those that simply love to play the game to those that build multiple costumes and props. The site has a large number of files in the Armory for both Pepakura and foam unfolds. There are also dozens of tutorials on how to do everything from calibrating your paper cutting machine to building with foam to 3d printing and beyond.
The 405th has been fortunate enough to be a part of several large events such as the Halo World Championship each year in Seattle, to the red carpet premiers in LA for the premieres of seasons 1 and 2 of the Halo TV show, original on Paramount + and now seen on Netflix. These sorts of events are available to all members world wide (with the caveat that there are potentially some requirements for costumes and costume completeness for some events) but all at your own expense. Locally, Snowburner is typically a less active group, but don't let that discourage you. Events are hard to run with only a few people so if you are interested and want to add to the local numbers sign up on the main forum and start getting to know everyone. As well, if you are travel to other cons around North America, you can talk to members in that region to see if there will be any events during your time there.
The forum itself does have a requirement for you to be on the forum for a period of 90 days AND have 50 posts before you become a full member. However, during that time, you really aren't all that limited in what you can do. Once you do achieve the 50 posts and 90 days, you can become a full member of the Canadian Regiment and will get access to the Regiment only area of the forum. You will also be placed in Snowburner Battalion.
The 405th has a Facebook group for the main 405th as well as groups for each of the Regiments. As well, there is a very active Discord Server.
Full disclosure - I was the Commanding Officer of the entire 405th until recently for the past 11 years. I stepped down to give myself back the time to costume again and to focus on helping the costuming community locally. The current Commanding Officer and his staff are amazing people. If Halo is your jam, you'll love it there!
