I'm still collecting screen captures, but there were a couple of good promotional shots that let us see parts of the costume.

Lighting is always an issue to figure out the true color. The tunic is clearly a twill - either blue grey or slate grey depending on lighting. I'll probably go more toward the blue grey if I can since it looks that way most often in the lighting of the show. For the Royal blue fabric, I found at really nice bridal matte satin that matches really when, and it looks and drapes the way it does in the show, so I bought that.

The lighter fabric seems to have some good texture to it, some slubbing maybe. For that one I found at natural viscose linen that looked really close to it. Close enough for my tastes anyway.

Finding the multi-colored insert fabric is the worst. It honestly looks like a flat weave rug. But maybe also a flat tweed upholstery fabric. While it's clearly textured, the weave is very straight. I'll poke my nose through the upholstery racks and see what I can find that is close to that taupe/brown multi-colored fabric. That will be the hardest.

The other challenge that I have on the fabric is that the pants are never visible in the show or the promo shots that I've found. I'm literally going frame by frame right now to see if maybe there is a glimpse. But the reality is that the tunic reaches to the top of the boots, even when he's walking. So, either plain black pants or pants made of the same material as the tunic. I'm probably leaning toward the latter, since that would create the best look when I'm walking in the costume. Still looking through screen shots though.

I'll post up later some shots of the actual fabric that I've bought.

In addition to the fabric, I've started work on 3D modeling the collar insignia and belt. The nice part here is that there are clean, face-on shots and they are pretty flat shapes to sketch and extrude in Fusion. The collar you can see in the previous post and the belt is below. It's easy enough just to blow up the image on my monitor and take my calipers to measure it out. Sketch it in the software and then scale to size. For the belt, I'm assuming a 2" wide belt and scaling from there.

Here's the model of the collar insignia. I'll post up the belt design when I'm done and have test printed it.

That's all for now.

Got the 3D model done on the Belt Buckle. Now to do some test prints and figure out what needs tweaking, plus I'll need to add a mechanism for attachment. But, one step at a time.

This is exciting! Oddly, that trim on the carpet looking fabric looks to be elastic, or at least that's what first jumps to my mind.

Totally agree with you on that the lightest fabric has a slub. Could be a raw silk. It seems to have a shine to it in some angles. The carpet stuff.....I'm going to guess it's thin upholstery fabric. Only because it's on the sleeve cuff as well so it would need to not be too heavy.

This inset piece though......-sigh-....so lovely.

I'm going to guess with the way that it sort of is poofy on the outside of the seam and really lovely and smooth on the inside of the seam that the seam is pushed to the outside, as opposed to being butterflied open. Definitely not top stitched or it would likely be flatter. Just a good, crisp iron. Maybe?

I agree that it’s likely elastic. I’ve been wandering the elastic aisles looking for something closest to it. The biggest thing making me think that is that it doesn’t lay flat anywhere at the corners. It has a rolled effect that looks like elastic. I will say this is the only part of the costume that I hate. Those corners look terrible up close.

I found a thinner tweed upholstery fabric at fabricland that I think is close enough. I’ll never match it perfectly but I think this one is as good as I’ll get. I’ll go back in November and grab it.

I’ll have some more screen shots to post soon. That inset piece on the robe will be fun. It’s 5 sections with a curved bottom. That one is going to stretch my sewing skills. Asymmetrical insets. Lots of mockups in my future.

I’m currently painting the buckle and insignia so that should come soon. Just need to find the twill and I should be good to go.

It's such an odd choice of trim. I mean I like the ridgeiness of the elastic to give more texture but I agree, those corners aren't sewn down. I'm thinking some double sided tape like we use in bag making might help sticking it all down before you sew it to make it easier. I'm not sure that the usual sewing, much less sticky, tape will work, especially since you can't really iron that elastic for long enough to get the tape to stick. Or maybe even some 505 glue stick which is a temp quilting type glue might help.

As for those inserts, don't fret. It's not as bad as it seems. The hardest part is going to be getting it all cut out properly. The sewing of the corner though can be tacked in a couple of ways to get it to be nice and sharp.

I found Andor to be a little to dark for my tastes but the Costumes in it are AMAZING! The fabric choices on all the costumes just make my heart sing. This si going to be a fabulous costume.
